FAQ’s

If you have never heard of a professional declutterer or want to know more, read on. These are some of the most commonly asked questions:

Where do you work?

I work in South East London: Bexley, Greenwich, Bromley, Lewisham, Dartford, Croydon and Sevenoaks. Please get in touch via the contact form, fill in your postcode and I can see if I cover your area.

Are you insured?

Yes I am, to the sum of £1million.

Do you clean?

I do a basic wipe down of storage surfaces and can offer advice on how to deep clean but I concentrate on clearing and sorting.

What about storage?

Don’t buy any specific storage beforehand. I’ll work with your existing storage and then I can suggest any additional solutions you might need to buy after the free consultation.

Do I need to prepare in advance?

It’s always good to have some black sacks but I do come prepared! I have a little trolley full of organisational goodies, like Post-It notes, a stapler, a hole punch, a shredder, a screwdriver, refuse sacks, sorting baskets, paperclips, a label machine, tarpaulin, cable ties and even allen keys.

Do I need to get a skip?

That all depends on whether you want to dispose of larger items. We can discuss what you want to clear during our free consultation.

Where will my decluttered stuff go?

My ‘4 Rs’ system of reuse, recycle, re-home and refuse is our guideline. Reuse means you keep the item; recycle means either via the council’s facilities or Freegle/Freecycle; re-home means a charity shop donation, eBay or even give to a friend, and refuse means the bin. We always aim to recycle, re-home or reuse before we consign anything to the dump. If I’m travelling by car I’m happy to drop stuff off at a charity shop. You can nominate a charity shop of choice or I’ll just choose one close by! I leave the recycling and Freegle to you.

Is mine the worst house you’ve ever seen?

Over the last 15 years I’ve seen all sorts so don’t be frightened or embarrassed – I’m here to help!

Will I be forced to throw stuff away?

No, we’ll work through your possessions to establish whether you really need/use or like them before anything goes into a black bin liner! Even the most hardened hoarder usually parts with items when they realise how much space and calm it brings.

What if I get upset?

I am a shoulder to cry and many clients shed a tear as we work through personal belongings, especially old photographs or items they have inherited. Nothing has to be thrown away – it might be that we store in a more clever way.

Will one visit be enough?

For some people one visit will be enough but for large scale projects or people who are tackling clutter on a room-by-room basis, I often do repeat visits. A tidy house is addictive!

I have health issues that keep me from decluttering can you help?

I have worked with lots of clients in different situations. One of my clients had MS, another found it difficult to lift and bend and another had painful hands which made sorting and paperwork hard for her. Feel free to discuss your personal situation confidentially with me and I hope I can tailor my service to meet your needs.
